CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: No prefs, but probably best in Maurtia Falls
BACKGROUND:
Not much is known about Saitama's childhood. We don't see him any younger than middle school, where he is a bit anxious but also reacts to bullying with such a blasé faire, oblivious attitude that it just pisses off the people being jerks to him more, thus proving people have always misinterpreted his behavior as either confrontational or un-noteworthy.
When he was 22, he was living alone and having a rough time finding a job and was so apathetic about life that even when he ran into a crab monster on the prowl he wasn't the slightest bit afraid. The monster felt a kinship with Saitama's lifeless eyes, so let him continue on his way, saying he had to go find a kid with a cleft chin to enact revenge on for drawing nipples on his carapace chest as he napped in the park.
Continuing on home, he ran across the kid with a very, very obvious cleft chin and figured out this was the kid the crab monster was talking about. When the monster shows up to get the boy, Saitama finally feels something other than crushing apathy and saves him, taking a rough beating himself but defeating the creature with ingenuity by yanking out an eyestalk (and other innards) using his tie.
After this, he resolves to get strong and become a hero like the ones he used to watch on TV. With the rise of mysterious beings attacking all the cities, heroes were becoming a necessity. Thanks to him saving the cleft-chinned boy, however, the boy's rich grandfather began said Hero's Association, a group that recruits heroes, breaking them up into classes from weakest to strongest to fight mysterious beings that they also classified as either Tiger, Demon, Dragon or, worst of all, God.
Every day, Saitama trained by doing 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 squats and running 6.2 miles. Eventually, his strength grew so much he became quite literally unbeatable--and lost all his hair. While many don't believe that that training regime is enough for him to have become so powerful, he swears that was all he did. If something else was at play to make him stronger, he is not aware of it . . .
In this time, Saitama never made allegiances with anyone nor joined the Hero's Association, once it was established. He always maintained he was a hero for "hobby", doing it because it was fun for him to fight and the enjoyment of helping people. Because he was doing his heroic deeds for his own pleasure and not for fame, and because of his strikingly mundane or even dopey appearance, it was easy for people to overlook him. In fact, he was so forgettable that people attributed many of his actions to a man, King, that just happened to be in the right place at the right time and was eventually recruited into the Hero's Association as a top tier hero.
Saitama lived a totally solitary life like this for years, seeming to not mind it nor his lack of appreciation, though sometimes he thought about how nice it would be to have his good deeds recognized once in awhile. Enter Genos, a cyborg who was on the hunt for a Mad Cyborg that destroyed his village and almost killed him, leading him to be turned into a cyborg. Genos wasn't heroing for the sake of heroing, but if there was trouble in the area he was searching in he would help out. A mosquito monster was attacking Z City with her giant swarm of mosquitos, draining people dry of blood until they were husks, and Genos took pause to stop her, and that was when he came in contact with Saitama. Saitama was able to beat the mysterious being so easily, and managed to survive Genos' incineration blast, that Genos was beyond impressed. So impressed, he knew he had to become Saitama's disciple and learn how he got so strong so he could defeat the Mad Cyborg as easily as Saitama beat mysterious beings.
Saitama was duly weirded out by this and wanted no part of this, but Genos eventually convinced him to at least let him stay by offering a stack of cash he offered to help pay rent with. (Though, interestingly enough, it's been stated Saitama actually hasn't spent that money. So he's probably just full of shit and just sort of liked the attention, even as super weird as it was.)
A couple adventures later, Saitama crossed paths with a ninja by the ridiculous name of Speed-o'-Sonic Sound, who fought with super speed that was still not speedy enough to defeat Saitama. Despite Saitama beating him, (with an accidental dick punch), Saitama is still haunted by this encounter--haunted by the fact Speed-o'-Sonic Sound had never heard of him. Telling Genos about this, Genos suddenly realized Saitama wasn't a registered hero, and that was why he wasn't being recognized. So, they both join the Association (after Saitama told Genos he would make him his disciple if he joined with him, since Genos had no previous desire to join the Association), taking tests to show off their prowess. Genos was impressive enough he was immediately put into the highest tier, Class-S, but Saitama, despite breaking all physical test records by a huge margin, was put into the lowest, Class-C, due to his poor results on the written exam. So he continues on his journey of being overlooked or put down.
However, here or there some people were taking notice of his abilities. One instance was when he saved a City by punching a giant meteor into pieces, impressing one of the Class-S heroes, Bang, who immediately could tell how powerful he was. He steadily crawled up the ranks of the Hero's Association, because despite people thinking his wins may be flukes, and despite him handing over his credit to others or taking on the hatred of disgruntled citizens, he was still doing good enough work to go up in Class. By the time of his pull point, he was in Class-B.
One day, Class-S heroes were called into a meeting to hear the dire news of the Association's soothsayer dying after making a horrible prediction of the Earth being in danger, and Genos brought Saitama along. He was fortunately allowed to say, because just then A City (all cities are named letters of the alphabet, it's weird), the city they were in, is attacked by a giant UFO. It decimated the city in an instant, leaving only the fortified Hero's Association building standing, and mostly all of the Class-S heroes go out to stop it. Saitama took the immediate lead via jumping straight through the whole building to the roof, and before any of the other heroes could join him, he jumped to the UFO to search for the leader, who he assumed would be a strong opponent and maybe finally offer him a thrill. He rampaged through the ship, killing any alien in his way and destroying bits and pieces of the ship as the other heroes dealt with a powerful enemy on the ground, until he finally met up with the alien leader, Boros.
Boros had a story much like him: he became so powerful on his home planet no one could offer him a challenge and he felt dead inside. But, unlike Saitama, he went into space and traveled from planet to planet looking for the strongest and destroying said planets when they ultimately disappointed him. Saitama, needless to say, is very much unimpressed by his long-winded story and punched him once, destroying his armor that was apparently keeping his immense power in check, and then the fight began in earnest for Boros. The alien knocked him around the ship for awhile, even kicking Saitama so hard he shot out of Earth's atmosphere and crash landed on the moon. Saitama was able to survive by holding his breath and jump back to Japan and cut Boros' victory celebration short. He does consecutive punches on him once, and then again after Boros uses his alien regeneration power, and finally Boros can't regenerate anymore and is defeated.
Saitama, being the nice guy that he is, told Boros it was a good fight, and Boros said back before dying that Saitama was a liar and had barely had to try against him.
Saitama leaves yet another battle disappointed, and when he walked out of the UFO that crashed due to his fight, only a couple of the heroes believed he was the cause of this grand defeat, (those couple being Genos and Bang, or course). If only he had waited long enough for them all to see him enter the ship! But after this is where I pull him from, probably like a couple days later or whatever.
PERSONALITY:
Saitama can be a very indifferent, apathetic man. Not a whole lot riles him up or excites him, aside from referring to his baldness or a totally sweet bargain sale, and he suffers from depression, boredom and a self-existential crisis. This is all born from him having had a goal, to become a hero, and achieving it so completely that nothing offers him a challenge anymore. Since becoming a hero was everything he wanted and devoted his life to for years he has nothing else to rely on. So, he sits around his tiny apartment alone, reading manga or watching TV, watering his cactus, and going out seeking strong opponents but only fighting off nothings and saving countless people but never being recognized for it. So it's easy to see why he became so apathetic.
Despite this, though, it doesn't mean he's a bad person by any means. He'll talk a big talk about not caring about other people's troubles or woes, like when a police chief was telling him about how no one respects the police anymore due to the influx of super heroes and Saitama being all, "well, whatever, what do you want me to do about it?" But as soon as the situation turns into that person needing some sort of help he will readily do so, even at the expense of his own recognition. Like, going back to that police chief, when a monster attacks the station and the chief calls the Association asking for help and the Association gives him shit for it, Saitama gets pissed off by what he overhears, crushes the phone the chief was on, and stops the monster for them. Putting on a police officer's uniform, he carries the monster out to waiting news crews, making it look like the police had done the work, then just departs, leaving them the attention that they also deserved along with the super heroes. Just because they aren't taking down giant monsters doesn't mean they aren't heroes in their own right, right? So, yeah, he's really a good guy, but showing apathy is just how he rolls.
And also despite his crippling apathy, he isn't totally emotionless. His main emotion that comes out often appears to be annoyance, especially when people bring up his baldness, but also when people are generally being idiots about things he thinks they shouldn't be, like when the civilians turned on him for having stopped a giant meteor. All the pieces it broke into when he punched it destroyed property and belongings, angering them, and he shouts at them all that he doesn't care that their stuff was broken, complain to the meteor about that. But he's also capable of smiles and worries (he can become quite anxious, actually), et cetera, he isn't just a completely empty husk. He seems to get a little more open after Genos starts living with him and he starts making a couple other friends and allies here or there (not that he'd call him friends).
He also is a bit oblivious and prefers it when people get right to the point. People that chatter on or make speeches bore or annoy him and he will just outright stop listening or yell for people to make it shorter (looking at you, Genos). But, just in general, if something isn't interesting him he just plain isn't going to pay it any attention, which sometimes gets him into hot water. He is also pretty blunt and honest; he will tell you he isn't interested in whatever you were saying, or if asked a rhetorical question he will answer it, which sometimes gives people the impression he's being sassy when he's not. (Which, again, sometimes gets him in hot water.)
Basically, he's a bored young man, caught in a life crises, who has no time for your shit, but also still has the heart of a true hero, even if he may act like he doesn't sometimes.
POWER:
He's a bit tricky in terms of powers in a game. He is ridiculously overpowered, and I would normally nerf the powers, but they are so important to who he is as a character, so it is a struggle. However, that said, I assure people playing with me he isn't going to be butting in and saving the day in one punch all the time. He just isn't that sort of person, part of the problem with his overpoweredness is him being depressed and finding no joy in fighting if it isn't a challenge, or might seem like a challenge, and most things DO NOT seem like a challenge. This doesn't mean he'll ignore when shit is going down in front of his face, but he isn't going to travel across the country to stop a thing.
Also, I can assure you, I am far too lazy of a player to even keep thrusting him into things even if he was a more proactive hero lol.
That said, I offer some leeways and vulnerabilities below, please read on!
SUPER HUMAN PHYSICAL ABILITIES: He is so strong he can stop a foe in one attack (one punch is a bit of a misnomer, once in awhile he'll come across someone he does consecutive punches against, but it still counts as one attack, technically). If he's facing a monster he will kill them, but humans he generally tones down his strength to just give them a bit of a slap and knocking them out. While he can't do things like fly, he uses his strength to jump very high or long distances as needed.
This is more strength of will than physical strength, but perhaps still related enough, but direct psychic attacks barely affect him as well, even the strongest telekinetic on his world couldn't do much to him. The most she was able to do was make him twitch around a little like he was in a massage chair. Though, a psychic hitting him very hard with a physical object could still knock him around.
Along with his strength, he is very fast and has great reflexes. He's probably not going to be going so fast he can beat, say, a superhero like the Flash at a race, and he can't do the moving so fast that people seem frozen in time move of a fella like Quicksilver, but he was faster than Speed-o'-Sonic Sound who can move at hypersonic speeds and able to dodge his attacks with minimal effort, but he doesn't always dodge and blows can and do land.
He has a great deal of stamina as well, and rarely shows any signs of tiring, though this could just be because he hasn't had a situation where he hit that stamina wall yet and he still does have a limit.
[Seeming] INVINCIBILITY: He seemingly can't be harmed to direct physical or mental attacks. Any fights he has had in canon, no matter the foe, no matter the situation (like the whole being kicked to the moon and jumping back to earth thing), only his costume comes out harmed. He isn't an unmovable force, though, if the person is strong enough he can be hit across a distance, but the person has to be much stronger than average to affect him in this manner.
I'll add the caveat of "seeming" since there could be someone out there to match or outmatch him. It's what he dreams of, after all! But below are a list of things I will say he's vulnerable to, either shown in canon or hasn't been addressed in canon so we can make some assumptions here.
So, some vulnerabilities:
- SUFFOCATION/PRESSURE: Using the being-kicked-to-the-moon situation, he is shown to be affected by the lack of air and holds his breath. Thus, he could be suffocated or drowned. It's also possible for a normal person to survive in the vacuum of space for 10-15 seconds, which was within the time he was there, so it's safe to assume he wouldn't be able to survive out there for much longer than that nor under any sort of high pressure.
- MAGIC: There hasn't been magic shown in his canon yet, so there is a chance for getting one up on him via this. Things like fire balls or lightning bolts will do nothing if it's not, like, crazy good, but other magical spells could mess things up. Unbreakable bonds, time magic, teleportation, the dreaded Harry Potter spell of spitting up slugs, casting a darkness spell and he can't see, sticking him to the ground...
In fact, let's use some of the above as just regular super powers that someone might have that can affect him... - TIME: He can't do nothing against time, so if someone has time powers to freeze someone in time or what have you, he'd be affected.
- TELEPORTATION: He can be teleported as easily as anyone else, and although he's fast, running half way across the world could wear him out plus he wouldn't how the hell to even get back in the first place. Even on a smaller scale, sending him to a strange city he would probably be baffled enough to be late to a fight.
And on the other side of this power, if someone can teleport themselves, they could easily escape him. - REGENERATION: If someone is able to regenerate from wounds quickly and the power doesn't wear out, they could most likely survive punches from him. Boros reforms after his first barrage of punches, but seems his stamina wore out and he couldn't regenerate again so perished.
- TRANSFORMATION: Want to turn him into a bald kangaroo? Why the hell not.
- INTANGIBILITY: If your character can be intangible then he can't punch them, right.
These were just some I came up. There could be many more out there! Heck, there could be an super strong character out there like him that could match or outmatch him or survive a punch! (For example: he may be able to withstand an attack from the most powerful telekinetic on his planet, but there could still be someone stronger out there, like, uhm, using my limited super hero knowledge I know the Phoenix is supposed to be all bad ass psychic, so someone like that could do something!)
Either case, I'm more than open to talking things out and if anyone wants to ask a question about if this or that could affect him, here is a post to discuss and hash things out!

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
[Sent in text to the network, translated via communicator, how handy.]
Hi.
Anyone out there knows how to change the translator voice on the phone they gave us? I can't figure it out. Mine might be broken or something. [Or he has no patience for a complicated piece of technology...]
Don't get me wrong, the British woman's voice is nice and everything, but it's weird hearing stuff I'm saying coming out that way.
I don't mind hearing everyone else that way when it translates back to me, though. It's kind of funny.
(I hope this thing is actually translating right. It would suck to ask for help and it just comes out as asking about goldfish poops....)
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:
TDM has a log thread!
FINAL NOTES:
I think I will keep him Japanese speaking so using his comm for translating, but I assume will be safe to say he knows a little English and can work his way into learning it more thoroughly. Also, let me know if it seems like I'm interpreting how the communicator translator works wrong. UvU
